Once again it's that time to share my experience! The chaos, cosmetics and costumes of that wonderful crazy. That crazy we fashionistas love and get revved up for every six months - the experience we call New York Fashion Week! This season, Spring/Summer 2018, because of work obligations, I headed to NYC to begin seeing shows on Friday, September 8 rather than that Wednesday when it officially kicked-off. I skipped one show earlier that day and opted to meet a friend/blogger/sorority sister Evelyn of Fashion Briefs (pictured above wearing the hat), who's a newbie on the fashion week circuit, doing all the Nolcha Shows with her instead. For this post I'm actually going to switch things up a bit and shift things in reverse, starting at Day 2 instead, since Day 1 has more shows and pics to cover. Day 2 shows started with what was actually a presentation, not a show. As you'll see below, it was the Banana Republic X Olivia Palermo Fall 2017 collabo (that's right Fall, not Spring/Summer '18),"see now, buy now" presentation. Let me tell you it was a jam packed, mad house, both inside their 5th avenue Flagship store in Flatiron, and outside on the sidewalks getting in and even on the street! This is typical NYFW cray and I wouldn't expect it to be any other way!
I know this post is long, but please indulge me and continue to scroll down further, to witness my Day 1, full of fashion and fun! Let's start below at Day 2, Banana Republic, where I'm also wearing Fall Banana Republic for my look and then move on to newcomer To Be Thrill by Edison Lu and then special occasion designer Mac Duggal. Enjoy friends!
BANANA REPUBLIC X OLIVIA PALERMO
Strong wearable collection with tones of military-inspired romance and twisted classics - certainly no shortage of pleats and billowy fabrics and the chiffon was in full force. The capsule collection is rich in color, balanced by timeless neutrals. Definately investment piece worthy.
Jacket: Banana Republic Pants: Banana Republic Top: BCBG Shoes: Zara Bag: Vintage Emma Hope
TO BE THRILL Edison Lu
Harajuku girl meets edgy goth girl is how I define this collection by hairstylist turned designer, Edison Lu.
MAC DUGGAL
For this collection, designer Mac Duggal presented beautiful gowns with ornate and intricate details throughout, made of luxiouruios fabrics. What also stood out was his use of plus size models in addition to the standard fit size model on the runway reinforceing his body positive message.
The wildly popular, Nick Canon made an appearance to the support the designer
Hip-Hop/Reality TV Stars showed up for this event
DAY 1
ALL COMES FROM NOTHING
This collection featured minimalist designs and a sleek color palette inspired by the Chinese philosophy of simplicity and minimalism. Love its streetstyle undertones.
W. Reflex
Modern silhouettes using raw materials like cotton, linen and leather to tell a story inspired by NYC loft culture
Luyang by Yanglu
This collection featured intricate folds, embroidery, printing and hanging ribbons, with the color red recurring throughout the collection to emphasize love.
Chasity Sereal
Sensational evening dresses/ball gowns and non-traditional bridal gowns inspired by fantasy and fairytale.
TRADE by Gina La Morte
Love the opulent neutrals here from this apparel and handbag designer with a cause (supports work to end trafficking of women and children). Luxurious, drapey fabrics in very feminine designs.
Fur sweater: Anthropologie Pants: Banana Republic Shoes: Marc Fisher Purse: Nasty Gal
This is me with actress Donshea Hopkins "Raina" from the hit series Power on STARZ! The Gucci flats Donshea was wearing were AMAZE btw!
Divas, although these Marc Fisher shoes I'm wearing look great and while the heel isn't too high, word to the wise - carry an extra large bag with you, something the size of a tote not only for all those goodies and giveaways you collect during the week, but to carry an extra pair of flat, walking shoes or kicks for comfort. Running in heels during NYFW can be killer on your feet. Girl, what, my feet were screaming, lol!!! Stay tuned for my next post on Day 3 & 4 looks and runway shows! #SybilStreetSTYLe
