Howdy folks! I couldn't resist saying that, b/c traditionally when I think of denim on denim I'd naturally default to think of country western. But today, this trend is far beyond that of cowboy hats and spurs on boots. Gone are the days of laughing with your girls about the person seen sporting a full denim "ensemble!" Double denim is quite cool and can be perfectly chic when done right. Don't get me wrong, too much of any good thing can go left and be deemed a fashion faux pas - think Justin and Brittney! So let's not overdose on denim. Most fashion experts would say, mix up your rinses, which is dead on, but I just decided to be risky (and a little defiant) and do matchy-matchy! I like the fringe detail not only at the shoulder but around the hemline as well, which breaks up the monotony a bit and gives more interest to my double on. I tied a bandana around my neck for even more urban bang and put on my copper Nike Cortez, paired a throwback Suzi Wong MCM crossbody and grabbed these uber cool, mirrored Elloqui sunnies for yet more bang. I could have totally seen this look with a pair of the cool, metallic oxfords with the white flatform bottoms that are trending right now, of which I don't own (I need to buy a pair!). Again I went a little matchy-matchy, but to finish off the look, instead of taking a piece off, I wore the large hoop earrings (one of my signatures) with everything else going on up top. But hey, isn't that what personal style is all about, doing it your own way, so I did it in full #SybilStreetSTYLe
Read on below for my tips on how to rock this trend, without it become denim overload!
- If you want to try the denim on denim trend, especially if you're a beginner I would suggest to start out by pairing different shades of denim together, like white jeans and a blue denim jacket, or black jeans and a chambray shirt.
- Then you can move on to trying different shades of blue together.
- Next, I would recommend amping up your outfit with luxe-looking items including statement heels (animal print would be nice), a cute blazer/top coat, a dope pair of sunnies or a strong red (or other) lip color.
- Also, add to the texture and interest of this trend by wearing jeans that are distressed or rip them if they aren't already. Finally, let's keep the denim exclusive to your clothing and steer clear pf denim bags, shoes and hats, don't want you to go denim overboard but denim chic!
